On Tuesday, India picked its team for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in June this year and played in the United States and the West Indies.
Rohit Sharma will be the team captain, and Hardik Pandya will be his second-in-command. KL Rahul didn’t make it onto the team, but Yuzvendra Chahal has returned!
India chose some new players for the World Cup! Yashasvi Jaiswal might open the batting, and Shivam Dube did well in the IPL this year, so he will also get a chance to do so.
Arshdeep Singh joins the already strong team of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for bowling. They’ll be trying to take lots of wickets! And to round out the team, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson will take care of wicket-keeping, while the all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja will bring their batting and bowling skills.
Even though Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh didn’t make the final cut, they’re on standby if any player gets hurt or the team needs a change of pace.
Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan are also backups in case of injuries or if the team decides they need something different.
India is in a challenging but exciting group at the T20 World Cup! They’re in Group A with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the USA (this year’s host team).
Their first match is against Ireland on June 5th at a new stadium in New York. Then comes a big game against Pakistan on June 9th at the same place. After that, they play USA on June 12th and Canada on June 15th. Here’s hoping India gets off to a strong start and makes it out of the group stage!
