Australia Announce T20I Squad | Mitchell Marsh to Lead Australia in T20I Series Against West Indies

Australia Announce T20I Squad Mitchell Marsh to Lead Australia in T20I Series Against West Indies

Cricket Australia has unveiled a formidable 14-member T20I squad set to clash with the West Indies in a thrilling three-match series commencing on February 9. Leading the charge will be the dynamic batting all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who has been appointed as the skipper for the upcoming contests.

Notably, the squad includes the recently retired David Warner, who is making a return to international cricket in the T20 format. Joining him are power-hitters Tim David and Marcus Stoinis, adding depth and experience to the Australian lineup.

However, the team will need the services of key players Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steven Smith, who have been rested to carefully manage their workloads ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand in late February.

The Australian team has yet to decide on a permanent captain for the 20-over matches since Aaron Finch retired from T20Is in 2022. Mitchell Marsh, who successfully led the team to a 3-0 victory over South Africa, is once again entrusted with captaincy duties. Notably, during their tour in India, wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade took charge of the team.

Pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was rested from the 50-over series, makes a return to the T20I squad to face the West Indies. With no IPL contract in 2024, this series, along with the subsequent one against New Zealand, represents Hazlewood’s final opportunity to showcase his T20 prowess before the World Cup.

The series kicks off with the first T20I scheduled for February 9 in Hobart. The cricket action then moves to Adelaide and Perth for the second and third games on February 11 and 13, respectively.
