Dhaka, September 14, 2024 — Bangladesh is set to host South Africa for a two-match Test series in October as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Despite political unrest in the country, which recently led to the shifting of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to the UAE, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains optimistic that the tour will proceed as planned.
According to BCB officials, the first Test is scheduled to take place at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on October 21, followed by second and final Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on October 29. The South African team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on October 16, with the series wrapping up by November 3.
While concerns about the political situation were raised, the BCB and Cricket South Africa (CSA) officials have indicated no immediate security concerns. Notably, South Africa’s government has not issued travel advisories against visiting Bangladesh, which adds to the likelihood of the series proceeding on schedule.
Before making the final decision, CSA is expected to consult with the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA). The BCB is expected to make an official announcement confirming the series dates in the coming days.
