Carlos Alcaraz has promised to celebrate an Australian Open triumph with a unique tribute—a kangaroo tattoo. The 21-year-old Spaniard, aiming to complete the career Grand Slam, announced his plan after a hard-fought victory over Portugal’s Nuno Borges, 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, in the third round. The Australian Open remains the only significant missing from Alcaraz’s collection, and the third seed has never advanced beyond the quarterfinal stage at Melbourne Park.
Alcaraz, who already sports tattoos commemorating his 2022 US Open victory, his 2024 French Open triumph, and two Wimbledon titles, reaffirmed his intent to mark an Australian Open victory in ink. “I will get a kangaroo [tattoo] for sure; that’s my idea,” he said. “The only thing missing is to lift the trophy here, but it’s the plan if it happens.”
In his match against Borges, Alcaraz demonstrated his signature dynamic style, delighting the Melbourne crowd with his shot variety and relentless energy. Despite cruising through the first two sets without facing a break point, Alcaraz’s performance dipped slightly in the third. A series of unforced errors allowed Borges to force a tie-break, which the world number 33 capitalized on to take the set. However, Alcaraz regained his rhythm in the fourth, delivering a dominant display and sealing victory with moments of brilliance, including a spectacular no-look winner that drew raucous applause.

Reflecting on the match, Alcaraz emphasized his joy in entertaining the crowd. “I try to play different tennis, show the shots I enjoy doing, and make people happy,” he said. His movement and creative shot selection continue to charm audiences, congealing his position as one of the sport’s most exciting players.
With the win, Alcaraz advances to the fourth round, where he could face British number one Jack Draper. As he inches closer to a potential historic triumph, the young Spaniard remains focused on showcasing his best tennis while inspiring fans worldwide.
