Chelsea Salvages 2-2 Tie with Wrexham in Friendly at Levi's Stadium

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Lesley Ugochukwu’s late strike helped Chelsea secure a 2-2 draw against Wrexham in a thrilling friendly match held at Levi’s Stadium on Wednesday night.
Ugochukwu netted the equalizer in the 82nd minute, rolling a precise shot from the middle of the box through a crowded defense into the right corner of the net.

Wrexham had taken a 2-1 lead earlier when Jack Marriot scored on a swift counterattack in the 72nd minute. Luke Bolton also found the net for Wrexham, the Welsh team co-owned by actor Ryan Reynolds. The team was recently promoted to the third tier of English soccer.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Christopher Nkunku fired a shot from the middle of the box into the left corner, assisted by Marc Guiu after a corner kick. This marked Chelsea’s first preseason match and their debut under new manager Enzo Maresca, the former Leicester City boss.

Wrexham leveled the match in the 58th minute when Bolton scored from the right wing, receiving a well-timed crossing pass from Sebastian Revan.

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez made a crucial save in the 29th minute, blocking a breakaway attempt by James McLean.

The match contrasted their previous encounter last season, where Chelsea triumphed with a 5-0 victory over Wrexham.
