DENVER, September 11, 2024 – The Denver Nuggets have secured their star guard Jamal Murray with a multi-year contract extension, announced today by General Manager Calvin Booth.
Last season, Murray had an outstanding performance, averaging 21.2 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. His shooting stats were impressive, with a field goal percentage of 48.1% and a three-point shooting percentage of 42.5%. Notably, he matched or surpassed his career highs in many categories, including points per game and assists per game.
Among his notable achievements, Murray was one of only three players to average over 20 points and six assists while shooting more than 40% from beyond the arc. He also recorded ten games with ten or more assists, exceeding his performance in the previous three seasons combined.
Despite missing the entire 2021-22 season due to injury, Murray has been a vital asset for the Nuggets in the subsequent two seasons. In 125 games, all as a starter, he has averaged 20.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds. His shooting consistency is evident, with a field goal percentage of 46.7% and a three-point percentage of 41.0%.
Murray has set several important marks for the Nuggets franchise: he is first all time in three-point field goals (990), seventh overall in assists (2160), eighth overall in points (8187), and ninth overall in total field goals (3020). His playoff credentials are equally impressive. Murray is one of only eight players with multiple 50-point playoff games in NBA history and boasts averages of 24.2 points, 6.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals across 65 career playoff games.
His postseason performance has been remarkable, including averaging 21.4 points, 10.0 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals during the 2023 NBA Finals, where he played a crucial role in securing the Nuggets’ first-ever Larry O’Brien trophy.
The Nuggets selected Murray with the seventh overall choice in the 2016 NBA Draft. He has started 395 of his 469 career games as a starter, scoring an average of 17.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.0% from three and 45.2% from the field.
