British tennis star Emma Raducanu’s injury woes continued as she retired from her Korea Open quarter-final against top-seeded Daria Kasatkina due to a left foot injury. The 21-year-old, ranked world number 70, was forced to call it quits after losing the first set 6-1.

Raducanu, who had shown signs of discomfort in her previous match against Yue Yuan, struggled from the outset. Despite breaking Kasatkina immediately after being broken in the second game, the British number two was visibly hampered by her movement and found it difficult to serve effectively.

After requiring a medical timeout following the fifth game, Raducanu decided to withdraw, cutting short her hopes of reaching her first WTA semi-final above 250 level since her remarkable 2021 US Open triumph.

Kasatkina, who will now face fellow Russian Diana Shnaider in the semi-finals, offered words of sympathy: “I feel sorry for Emma. It’s a pity to get injured, especially in the deeper stages of the tournament. I wish her a speedy recovery.”

Raducanu has endured a challenging period since her US Open breakthrough, with multiple injuries affecting her consistency. Following surgeries on both hands and her left ankle, she was limited to just nine matches in 2023. This year, she has shown glimpses of form, reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon and returning to the top 100. However, a first-round exit at last month’s US Open and this latest setback will only add to her frustrations as she looks to regain her peak fitness.

This injury puts Raducanu’s season in doubt as she continues to battle for consistency in the competitive world of women’s tennis. Stay tuned for more updates on her condition and future tournaments.
