Paris, 31 July 2024 – Simone Biles once again proved her mettle by leading Team USA to a stunning victory in the women’s team gymnastics event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The team, including Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and newcomer Hezly Rivera, clinched the gold medal, marking the United States’ fourth triumph.
The day began uniquely for Biles, who emphasized her commitment to mental health—a focus that has defined her recent journey. “At the beginning of the day, I started with therapy this morning. That was super exciting,” Biles revealed. “I told my therapist I was feeling calm and ready.” It set a positive tone for the competition, underscoring the importance of mental preparedness alongside physical readiness.
Biles’ opening routine on the vault was critical, especially given her past struggles with the ‘twisties.’ She landed a Cheng vault, a moment that brought relief and confidence. “After I finished vault, I was relieved,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Phew!’ because at least no flashbacks or anything. I did feel a lot of relief. As soon as I landed vault, I was like, ‘Definitely, we’re going to do this.'”
Reflecting on the difference between her first and second Olympic team gold medals, Biles shared, “I think in 2016, we were destined to win gold. Everybody kind of already said we were going to win gold. Now that I’m much older and have much more experience, we’re out here having fun and enjoying what we’re doing.”
The team’s harmonious and joyful approach was evident throughout the competition. “It just felt a little bit different tonight,” Biles said later. “It was super exciting; we had fun, enjoyed each other’s time out there, and just did gymnastics.”
This victory adds to Biles’ illustrious career and underscores the importance of a balanced approach to mental and physical health in elite sports. Team USA’s golden performance in Paris is a testament to their dedication, teamwork, and the pure joy of gymnastics.
