The 13th match of IPL 2024 was a thriller! Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a hard-fought victory by 20 runs against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Winning the toss, DC opted to bat first. Their experienced opener, David Warner, led the charge with a well-made 52 off 35 deliveries. Youngster Prithvi Shaw provided valuable support with a fluent 43 off 27 balls. Captain Rishabh Pant chipped in with a crucial 51 off 32 balls, giving DC a strong platform. The CSK bowling attack, led by the young pacer Matheesha Pathirana (3/31), did take some wickets, but DC managed to post a competitive total of 191 runs on the board in their 20 overs.

CSK’s top order wobbled early. While the experienced Ajinkya Rahane played a fighting knock of 45 runs, the wickets kept tumbling regularly. MS Dhoni, the veteran finisher, tried his best with a late cameo of 37 runs off a mere 16 balls, but it proved insufficient. Daryl Mitchell (34 off 26 balls) also showed some resistance, but ultimately, CSK fell short by 20 runs, succumbing to some disciplined bowling from DC.

The bowling performances were a highlight of the match. For DC, Khaleel Ahmed was the star with figures of 2/21 in his four overs, picking up crucial wickets at the death. Young pacer Mukesh Kumar also impressed, claiming 3/21 in his three overs. Spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav played their roles effectively, keeping the run flow in check. For CSK, Pathirana’s three wickets were a bright spot, but they couldn’t find enough support from the other bowlers.

Khaleel Ahmed’s clinical bowling performance in the death overs earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award. His two wickets, including the prized scalp of MS Dhoni, proved instrumental in securing victory for DC.
