Early Life
Joel Embiid was born on March 16, 1994, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. As a kid, he played soccer and volleyball, and he only started playing basketball at the age of 15. Luc Mbah a Moute discovered him at a basketball camp in his hometown. To chase his dream of becoming a professional basketball player, Joel moved to Montverde Academy in Florida. Because he didn’t get much playing time there, he switched to The Rock School, where he completed high school.
