Paris Olympics 2024 Indian Shooters Miss 10m Air Rifle Medals

On the first day of the Paris Olympics, Indian shooters Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta were only one point away from winning a spot in the bronze medal match in a hotly contested qualification round of the 10m air rifle mixed team event.

Representing India 2, the duo finished with a total score of 628.7. This score was agonizingly close to the top four teams that advanced to the medal rounds, underscoring the intense competition in rifle shooting, where variations of even the tiniest margins can significantly impact.

For comparison, the current world record in the 10m air rifle mixed team category is held by Narmada Nithin and Rudrankksh Patil with a score of 635.2.

During the qualification round, each team was required to shoot 30 shots divided into three series of 10 shots each, with the maximum score per shot being 10.9. Ramita Jindal scored 314.5 points, while her teammate Arjun Babuta scored 314.2, bringing their combined total to 628.7 points, a commendable performance under the scoring system.

The other Indian pair, Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, finished 12th with a total score 626.3. Valarivan contributed 312.6 points, and Singh added 313.7 points. Despite their efforts, more than this score was insufficient to advance them to the next round.

This outcome reflects the high level of precision and competition in Olympic rifle shooting, where every shot counts, and even a single point can determine the difference between advancing to the medal rounds or being eliminated.
