Rublev Comes Back from 2 Sets Down in Thrilling Victory

Andrey Rublev staged an incredible comeback to defeat Arthur Rinderknech 4-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 6-2 under sweltering conditions of 33°C. Despite a grueling four hours and six minutes on the court, Rublev managed to push through physical and mental exhaustion, finally lifting his arms in triumph.

Rublev, struggling with the heat, called for medical assistance. He complained of feeling overfilled and likened the discomfort to “having a baby” in his stomach. Even after the match, he stayed to sign autographs, visibly spent but satisfied.

Rublev’s next opponent will be 32nd seed Jiri Lehecka, who also made a dramatic comeback, overcoming Mitchell Krueger from two sets down.

In other matches, Alexander Zverev, the fourth seed, continued his quest for a Grand Slam title with a 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 win over Alexandre Muller. Zverev, who had doubts about returning to top form after a serious ankle injury, has now won 54 singles matches this year, the most on tour. He will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.

American Frances Tiafoe advanced when Alexander Shevchenko retired with an injury. Ninth seed Grigor Dimitrov defeated Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. In the evening session, eighth seed Casper Ruud overcame Gael Monfils 6-4 6-2 2-6 7-6 (7-3), and 12th seed Taylor Fritz secured a win against Matteo Berrettini with a 6-3 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 scoreline.

Lorenzo Musetti also advanced after a five-set battle with Miomir Kecmanovic, saving two match points to win 3-6 6-4 6-4 2-6 7-5. Musetti celebrated his victory by removing his shirt and shouting in joy as the crowd cheered him on.
