Tommy Edman Signs $74M Deal with Dodgers After World Series Win

Tommy Edman signs $74M deal with Dodgers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tommy Edman has agreed to a five-year, $74 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team announced on Friday. The deal includes a team option for 2030 and a unique provision where $25 million will be deferred over the next 10 years. This new agreement overrides the two-year, $16.5 million contract Edman had previously signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in February, which had set his salary at $9.5 million for 2025.

Edman, 29, was acquired by the Dodgers in a three-team trade on July 29, which also involved the Chicago White Sox. In his 37 regular-season games with Los Angeles, he posted a .237 batting average with six home runs and 20 RBIs. His performance during the postseason, however, was nothing short of spectacular. Edman was named the Most Valuable Player of the National League Championship Series after hitting .407 with 11 RBIs, and he continued to shine in the World Series, batting .320 with two home runs and 13 RBIs as the Dodgers clinched the championship.

Known for his versatility, Edman has played second base, shortstop, and the outfield throughout his profession. Over six seasons with the Cardinals and Dodgers, he has accumulated a .263 career average, 59 home runs, 242 RBIs, and 112 stolen bases. Edman would have been eligible for free agency after the 2025 season but has now secured his future with the Dodgers through the 2029 campaign.
