Tottenham Hotspur secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United to claim the final spot in the EFL Cup semi-finals in a dramatic encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The match began cautiously, with neither side managing a shot on target in the opening ten minutes. However, the deadlock was broken by Dominic Solanke, who capitalized on a parry from Altay Bayındır after Pedro Porro’s powerful strike to drill home the opener on the half-volley.

The first half remained evenly contested, with Manchester United struggling to create significant chances despite Christian Eriksen’s efforts. The former Spurs midfielder came close twice, only to see both attempts blocked, while Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski showed flashes of brilliance, including a shot saved from a tight angle.
Tottenham started the second half strongly, doubling their lead through Kulusevski. A failed clearance by Lisandro Martinez following a James Maddison cross gifted the Swedish winger an easy finish. Moments later, Spurs appeared to seal the game when Solanke added his second of the night, expertly converting a through ball from Djed Spence to make it 3-0.
Despite the commanding lead, Tottenham’s composure unravelled as Fraser Forster’s errors sparked a late comeback from Manchester United. Forster’s errant pass allowed Bruno Fernandes to assist Joshua Zirkzee for a simple tap-in, reducing the deficit to 3-1. Minutes later, Forster mishandled an attempted clearance under pressure from Amad Diallo, resulting in the ball ricocheting off the Ivorian and into the net, cutting Spurs’ lead to one.
With the pressure mounting, Tottenham held firm despite Manchester United’s relentless push for an equalizer in the dying moments. The victory sees Spurs advance to the semi-finals, keeping their hopes alive for silverware this season, while Manchester United are left to reflect on missed opportunities and costly mistakes.
