The West Indies secured a commanding seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second ODI at Warner Park, St. Kitts, clinching the series with a game to spare. Stellar performances from Brandon King and Jayden Seales propelled the hosts to a memorable win on Tuesday.
Opting to bowl first, West Indies captain Shai Hope’s decision paid off immediately as Jayden Seales dismantled Bangladesh’s top order. Seales struck early to dismiss Soumya Sarkar for two, and wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Litton Das (4), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1), and Tanzid Hasan (46) fell quickly, leaving the visitors reeling at 64-4.
Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah attempted a recovery, adding 36 runs before Gudakesh Motie removed Hossain for 24. Motie and debutant Marquino Mindley continued the assault, reducing Bangladesh to 115-7. A resilient 92-run partnership between Mahmudullah (62) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (45) provided a late boost, but Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 227 in 45.5 overs.
Jayden Seales delivered his career-best performance, taking 4-22 from nine overs, while Gudakesh Motie impressed with 2-36.
In response, the West Indies made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 36.5 overs. Brandon King starred with a scintillating 82 off 76 balls, supported by Evin Lewis (49) in a 109-run opening partnership. Keacy Carty added a composed 45, and captain Shai Hope (17*) and Sherfane Rutherford (24*) finished the game in style.
Rutherford’s two sixes off Shoriful Islam sealed the win, marking consecutive ODI series triumphs for the West Indies for the first time since 2007.
The final ODI will take place on Thursday at the same venue.
