ESPN Announces Serena Williams to Host 2024 ESPY Awards

Tennis champion Serena Williams is stepping back into the spotlight, this time to take center stage at the 2024 ESPYs. Announced by ESPN on Tuesday, Williams will host the prestigious awards show on July 11th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

That will be the first time Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, will helm the prestigious awards show that celebrates the past year’s top athletes and unforgettable sporting moments.  The choice is fitting, considering Williams herself is no stranger to ESPY success. Throughout her illustrious career, she’s racked up an impressive 25 ESPY awards, including multiple wins for “Favorite Female Athlete” and “Favorite Female Tennis Player.”

“This is a dream come true for me and something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember,” Williams said in a statement released on Tuesday.  Her enthusiasm is palpable, especially when she highlights the exceptional year sports has seen, particularly for female athletes. “It has been a sensational year for sports and unprecedented for female athletes. I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone onstage in July.”

The ESPY hosting gig comes on the heels of the July 10th premiere of “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” an eight-part docuseries chronicling her remarkable career on ESPN+.

While Williams officially retired from professional tennis after the 2022 U.S. Open, she has remained busy with exciting new ventures.  She recently launched a makeup line and co-founded a venture capital firm that empowers women and minority entrepreneurs.  Now, with her ESPY hosting gig, she adds another impressive accomplishment to her already overflowing trophy case.

The 2024 ESPY Awards, hosted by the legendary Serena Williams, promises to be a star-studded night filled with unforgettable moments, celebrating the best in sports and beyond. Don’t miss it on July 11th on ESPN!
