Pakistan's T20I Ranking Drops, While Australia Now Leads in Test Cricket, Replacing India

The latest ICC T20I rankings saw Pakistan drop two spots to seventh place. This comes after the council’s annual update.

Despite a slight decline in their lead (from 11 to 7 points), India remains the top-ranked team in T20Is. Australia has climbed to the second position, pushing England down to third. Australia now boasts a rating of 257 points, while England sits at 252.

South Africa is moving up the rankings, jumping two places to grab the fourth spot with 250 points. They’re hot on England’s heels, trailing them by two points. Meanwhile, the West Indies hold a sixth place with 249 points, just two points ahead of Pakistan, which fell to seventh.

In a significant shift, Australia has dethroned India in the Test rankings. This follows their dominant win, securing a massive 209-run victory over India in the World Test Championship final played at The Oval last year. Australia now reigns supreme as the number one Test team.

Australia now holds a rating of 124 points, four points clear of India and 19 points ahead of England, who remain in third place with 105 points. The rankings for teams from fourth to ninth—South Africa (103), New Zealand (96), Pakistan (89), Sri Lanka (83), West Indies (82), and Bangladesh (53)—remain unchanged.

The rankings update only considers teams’ performances from May 2021 onwards. Notably, India’s 2-1 series win over Australia in January 2021, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, is excluded from this period.
